On 2 January, Caroline Pallard, partner and European patent attorney at NLO, joined the team at the NLO office in Ghent, Belgium. Caroline’s move from the Netherlands to Belgium not only strengthens NLO’s position in the biotechnology sector, but also boosts its growth in Belgium. Caroline will also continue to work in NLO’s head office in The Hague, the Netherlands.
Strong biotech team in Ghent
In Ghent, the team will consist of three experienced biotech patent attorneys, Denis Canet, Emil Pot and Caroline Pallard, and a biotech trainee, Dieter Vanderschaeghe. In the span of just over a year, the office has grown to be an important IP office in Belgium.
Caroline on her move to Belgium: “Flanders is one of the biggest biotech hubs in Europe. The dynamics of the region are inspiring – there’s so much going on here. I look forward to strengthening both start-ups and established companies by applying smart patent strategies. Through my years of experience in both industry and in legal IP services, I can provide great added value.”
Caroline’s expertise lies in molecular biology, genomics, biochemistry and haematology. She advises biotechnology start-ups on their Intellectual Property strategy and is considered to be an “in-house” attorney by her biggest clients. She has experience with complex licence negotiations, IP due diligences and IPOs (Initial Public Offer) where Intellectual Property (IP) plays an important role.
The team in Ghent is specialised in life sciences and biotechnology and is also focused on electronics and ICT. Biotechnology and electronics are areas in which Belgium has a leading position internationally. In addition, attention is devoted to building up a local trademark and design practice. The ambition of NLO is to have further growth in Ghent as an organisation which can offer the entire range of IP services on all technology areas.
