This year marked the 6th edition of the Antwerp Young Enterpreneur competition, highlighting the entrepreneurial spirit in the province’s younger businessmen and women. This year’s 4 nominees were based in very different corners of the business map, ranging from logistics to fashion to medical and digital innovation. Ultimately Dr. Jan De Backer was selected as winner of the 2016 edition of the competition.
The jury praised De Backer’s way of combining his expertise in airspace engineering with his medical knowledge regarding the lungs. This eventually led to the creation of the FRI (functional respiratory imaging) technology, a revolutionary way of lung imaging, further developed and commercialized by the FLUIDDA team. Together with his entrepreneurial mindset to bring this technology to the market, these assets proved to be the determining factors for De Backer’s victory.
With this nomination, De Backer has a chance to be elected Flanders Young Entrepreneur of the Year at the event’s 11th edition on April 29th.
